EASTER IN THE VILLAGE

Spending Easter holidays in Trikeri is an experience you will never forget !

The atmosphere throughout Easter week is unique ,with the Procession of the Holy Sepulchre and Ressurection being the top events. The whole village reverently attend the Holy Woes. On Good Friday morning the women of the village decorate the Holy Sepulchre with various flowers and up until the night of the procession all the villagers pass by the Holy Trinity Church , the metropolis of the village ,to worship. At night the procession of the Holy Sepulchre goes around the whole village.

On Ressurection night, the believers await for the Holy Light holding wax candles in their hands , and on hearing "Christ is risen" by the priest's lips the sky changes thousands of colours by the fireworks. Easter Sunday is a day of celebration .Songs can be heard from every house while the neighbourhoods get filled with pleasant odours .

Every afternoon of the Easter week there is a dance (Round or Kalamatianos) accompanied by a foljlore orchestra at the stone--paved square, also called "aloni" .

The ceremonious days of the week , when the women put on their traditional dresses , are Monday and Friday following Easter. There are two dances on Easter Monday and Friday. At the first one , only women dressed in the spectacular , rich in embroideries ,Trikeri dress can dance. This dance is a sight of beauty and magnificence. The supple figures of Trikeri women wearing the formal festive tissued apparel lead the dance , while the men secretly make their choice of future wife. The second dance is mixed.
